Big History

with Heddi Craft

Calendar Sep 6, 2019 at 1 pm, runs for 36 weeks

In this year long course, we'll be studying 13.8 billion years of history, from the Big Bang to the present day. Along the way, we'll be thinking critically; connecting big ideas between past, present, and future; building informed arguments; and practicing these skills across disciplines and scales. This class has *required weekly homework of 1-2 hours*, including readings, videos to watch, some writing assignments, and projects. Big History can fulfill science and/or world history requirements in your homeschooling.

This is a year long course that builds in successive weeks.  No drop ins.  Instructor will contact participants with information about signing up for the online classroom

Minimus Latin - pt 3

with Rebecca Paten

Calendar Jan 13, 2020 at 11 am, runs for 8 weeks

Join us for this lively introduction to the Latin language and the culture of Roman Britian.  Students will learn basic grammar and Latin vocabulary through stories featuring a real family who lived in Roman times.  Minimus the mouse guides students through learning about first and second declension nouns and present tense verbs through short comics and a variety of activities.

Students will need to purchase a copy of the Minimus Starting out in Latin Pupil Book by Barbara Bell (used copies can be purchased on Amazon).  They will have some homework each week from the text.

Parents are encouraged to participate, especially if they haven't studied Latin themselves.

Children Just Like Me - pt 3

with Rebecca Paten

Calendar Jan 15, 2020 at 11 am, runs for 6 weeks

(continues class begun in Sept)

Using both editions of the book, Children Just Like Me, we will investigate the daily life of a child from different countries around the world. We will observe their country, where they live, what they eat, their food, family and activities. Food, games, crafts and activities will bring the country to life. This is open to all ages, but younger children will need a parent present. Families will be presenting appropriate food on a rotating basis.
